Hi, I’m Sarah – welcome to Digging the Earth! 🌿
I live in a lovely Derbyshire village, where I’ve been growing vegetables and connecting with nature since 2014. Taking on an allotment was one of the first things I did when we moved here, and over the years, it has become more than just a space for growing food – it’s been a sanctuary for healing, reflection, and mental well-being.
Life hasn’t always been straightforward. I grew up in difficult circumstances, shaped by loss and instability at a young age. Grief has arrived in waves over the years, including the devastating impact of multiple family suicides and sudden loss. I live with C-PTSD and Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and for me, the natural world has been one of the few places that helps me feel at ease.
During the most challenging times, my allotment became overgrown and neglected, but like life, the beauty is in returning. Each time I found my way back, cleared space, planted new seeds, and slowly reconnected with myself.
Alongside my art, gardening has been one of the most powerful ways I’ve learned to regulate my nervous system, find calm in chaos, and feel rooted in something bigger than myself.
Now, as I train in neuroscience coaching, I’m blending lived experience, scientific insight, and a love of organic gardening to share practical ways to support your mind and body, whether that’s through growing your own food, reconnecting with nature, or creating daily habits that bring more ease and balance.
Digging the Earth started as a veg-growing diary, but it’s grown into something much more. It’s about resilience, mental wellbeing, and the quiet, powerful transformations that happen when we return to nature.
Here’s what you’ll find here:
Practical tips to help you grow your own food, no matter your experience level or space
Seasonal gardening advice and mindful ways to connect with your environment
Stories and reflections on mental health, nervous system support, and recovery
Creative ways to use your harvest, from simple meals to homemade gifts
I believe growing your own organic food should be accessible to everyone, whether you’ve got a windowsill or an allotment. I hope to get as many people as possible started, with real-life, low-pressure tips that meet you where you are.
Soon, I’ll open a subscriber-only space for more personal reflections and exclusive content. It will be a safe, supportive place to explore healing, growing, and grounding through nature.
Thank you so much for being here. I hope this space inspires you to start your own growing journey, embrace the seasons, and find a little peace along the way.
