Hi, I’m Sarah – welcome to Digging the Earth! 🌿

Hi, I’m Sarah. I live in a lovely Derbyshire village, where I’ve been growing vegetables and connecting with nature since 2014. Taking on an allotment was one of the first things I did when we moved here, and over the years it has become more than just a space for growing food. It’s been a sanctuary for healing, reflection, and mental well-being.

Life hasn’t always been straightforward. I grew up in difficult circumstances, shaped by loss and instability at a young age. Grief has arrived in waves, including the devastating impact of multiple family suicides and sudden loss. I live with C-PTSD and Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and the natural world has become one of the few places where I feel at ease.

During the most difficult times, my allotment became overgrown and neglected. But like life, the beauty is in returning. Each time I found my way back, cleared space, planted seeds, and slowly reconnected with myself.

Alongside my art, gardening has been one of the most powerful ways I’ve learned to regulate my nervous system, find calm in chaos, and feel rooted in something bigger than myself.

Now, as I train in neuroscience coaching, I’m blending lived experience, scientific insight, and a love of organic gardening to share practical ways to support the mind and body. That might be through growing your own food, reconnecting with nature, or finding small daily habits that bring ease and balance.

Digging the Earth started as a veg-growing diary, but it’s grown into something more. It’s about resilience, mental wellbeing, and the quiet transformations that come from spending time in nature.

This is a space for real-life growers. For anyone navigating health challenges, change, or just looking for a slower, simpler connection to life. I don’t aim for perfection. I just try to grow what I can, when I can, and make the most of it.

Here’s what you’ll find here:

  • Practical tips to help you grow your own food, whatever your space or experience
  • Seasonal gardening advice and gentle ways to connect with your environment
  • Reflections on mental health, nervous system support, and recovery
  • Creative ways to use what you grow, from easy meals to homemade gifts

I believe growing your own food should be accessible to everyone. Whether you’ve got a windowsill or an allotment, this is a place to start where you are, without pressure.

Soon, I’ll open a subscriber-only space for more personal reflections and exclusive content. It will be a safe, supportive place to explore healing, growing, and grounding through nature.

Thank you for being here. I hope this space helps you begin your own growing journey, embrace the seasons, and find a little peace along the way.
